Aaron Kaehr, Owner
Aaron grew up in Indiana and moved to Washington in 1997 after meeting his partner on the internet. He went to beauty school at Northwest Hair Academy in Mount Vernon, WA, and graduated with a Cosmetology license in 2003. He worked at the JCPenney salon in Burlington till 2005 before returning to Northwest Hair Academy to obtain his instructor’s license. He taught at the academy until 2012, worked a short time, again, at JCPenney before starting his dream of opening a male focused salon which is now Hair & Body Mechanix! The shop opened on January 7, 2013 after years of dreaming and coming up with lots of ideas of how to run the shop, how the décor should look and what sort of ambience was to be portrayed.
Aaron enjoys running the business and enjoys cutting short hair cuts and fades.
Outside of the busy schedule of running a business, and taking clients full time, Aaron loves to cook, and loves to eat even more! He enjoys spending his days off with his husband, Joe, who is a veterinarian. They always have a house full of pets of some sort. (Limited to cats and dogs, and hopefully a goat, someday!) Aaron and Joe enjoy travelling and try to take at least two major vacations each year, and various day trips around the Pacific Northwest.
Darin Helt, Hair Mechanic
Darin started at Hair and Body Mechanix in October of 2015. Darin received his Barber/Cosmetology license from Crown School of Hair Design in 1986. Darin most recently worked, for 30 years, at Mariner Hair in Smokey Point. He enjoys doing gentlemen’s cuts.
Darin loves to spend time with his family and friends. He enjoys hiking, swimming, and antique shopping.
Sarah Lawrence, Hair Mechanic/Long Hair Styling/Color Specialist
Sarah joined our team in September 2015. She attended Northwest Hair Academy in Mount Vernon where she got her cosmetology license in 2006. She was also an instructor at the Academy. Sarah has worked at various salons including Body Boutique and Hair Masters. Sarah enjoys doing straight razor shaves for the guys, but her heart is happiest when she can get her hands into Long Hair and Creative Color!
When Sarah removes her gloves from coloring, she can be found with a fishing pole in her hand, camping, or anything outdoors. She also enjoys cooking.
Trista Peterson, Hair Mechanic/Long Hair Styling/Color Specialist
Trista was one of our original hires when we opened in January 2013. She went to Northwest Hair Academy and got her cosmetology license in 2010. She also worked as an instructor at the Academy until 2012. Trista enjoys doing color services, ladies cuts and fashion forward men’s cuts.
Trista is ALWAYS busy as she has a full time job aside from working at Hair and Body Mechanix part time. But when she has free time, she enjoys working on her home, hanging out with her 2 dogs, and being with family and friends.
Laura Rowland, Hair Mechanic/Skin Care Specialist
Laura has been a part of our team since October 2013. She attended Northwest Hair Academy in Mount Vernon where she got her cosmetology license in 2007. She worked as a receptionist at the Academy for a while and also worked at Hair Masters in Burlington. Laura also went to Paroba College of Cosmetology and Esthetics where she also got her Esthetician license. Her specialties are Men’s cuts and she LOVES doing Kid’s cuts! She also really enjoys doing facials and hair removal of any sort on guys and gals!
When Laura isn’t entertaining us at Hair and Body Mechanix with her humor and her stellar dance moves, she enjoys being outdoors…hiking, snowboarding, hunting, fishing, or working in her garden. She is also an avid knitter!
Alec Spencer, Hair Mechanic
Alec came to us in May 2016. He graduated with a Barber License from Paroba in Everett in May 2016. Alec enjoys barbering, but he especially looks forward to performing cuts that are transforming for the client. He has a background in Art and Design, so this lends nicely to his career in barbering!
Outside of hair, Alec enjoys being with his family and friends checking out local activities and festivals
